Jamboree - Kilmarnock Barassie G C

Scotland are Champions
Three West Seniors, Gillian Kyle, Lesley Robertson and Ruth Hunter were in the Scotland Seniors Team who won the Miller Stirling Salver in a nail biting afternoon at Kilmarnock Barassie. Having won the opening two matches against the south and the midlands our girls were one win away from overall dominance. The girls put up a fighting performance against the north but were narrowly beaten by 5.5 - 3.5. A nervous wait on the result of the match between midlands and south added to the tension. This match was thankfully tied and the team and the officials could relax and enjoy the moment. Its 15 years since we last won this event. We therefore congratulate Captain Lynne Fraser and her victorious team for this achievement. All results and final standings can be found on the opening page of our website.

The annual scratch match against Midland Seniors was played on the Keir Course at Cawder Golf Club.  This match was originally scheduled for May but had to be cancelled due to the course being closed due to flooding. The course was in excellent condition and the matches were played in warm, sunny conditions.

The games were all played in a very sporting manner with West retaining the trophy.

Name change to SSWGA
SSWGA West Division

If you attended our AGM last November you will be aware that the background to this name change was that the three divisions in
England were well on their way to change their name from Veteran Ladies to Senior Women. The reasons given were that the word Veteran gave the wrong impression on how senior women were
perceived in golfing circles. It was a name that was introduced in the 1950’s but it is now considered to be out of date with current thinking. It was discussed again at Blairgowrie on the 22nd September 2024 and it was agreed that the name change would go ahead from 1st October 2024. It was therefore a name change that was enforced upon us. No doubt we will get used to it eventually.

West Vets have a new name

We are now called Scottish Senior Women's Golf Association West Division. More information on this name change can be found below.
